Shawn,

You gotta be kidding me? Really good videos?

Are you kidding ME? Oh man aesthetically how many B/W videos had been done at that point? Someone was actually trying to make a video there. LL in the kangol. And then there's the whole 80s misogynistic/racial thing going with it only being white women in the video. And the smoking (ghasp!). And the upskirt voyeuristic parts (wtf / before his time?).

I could probably write a master's thesis on that video!

OK OK, I'll give it to you on the cars that go boom vid from a cinematography perspective, but it's still a good time capsule for me. As a 17 y/o growing up in las vegas in the 80s a slammed chop top mini truck with a boomin' system was really exactly what you needed to meet girls cruising the strip. And I didn't have one.

Pete, I hereby challenge you to top me with a better 80s video. The gauntlet has been thrown, sir!

(and no MJ or Madonna vids!)

Watching those vids replayed some of the same memories Shawn. I can relate.

Fwiw, I think Pete is on vacation.

I'm curious on what he may come up with???😳

Geeze Shawn,

I didn't know you had a PHD in old skool rap cinematography

You and I are both old skool rap fans as revealed when I mentioned Paul's Boutique.

The Beastie Boys performing on their tour of "Licnesed to ill" was the first real concert I had ever been to when I was in H.S. Public Enemy opened for them and I was like "who are these idiots on the sides of the stage?" Later, I became (and still am) a huge P.E. fan.

But, when I was growing up I only had cable T.V. for one summer. (sat there and watched T.V. all summer and my parents quickly killed cable). Because I hardly ever got to watch MTV, I've never seen most of the vids. that go with these old songs. In fact, those vids. you posted were the first time I had ever seen them. I knew the songs, just never saw the vids.

When I was 17 I was driving a tow truck on a 50 hr. shift from Fri. until Sun. every weekend while in H.S. And, during the summers, driving that truck even more. It wasn't easy picking up girls in the tow truck but, all I was concerned about was making money, the girls came eventually. I never "cruised". I will admit that the first car I bought when I was 16, I ended up putting a stereo in it that consisted of 13 speakers.

So, I don't have much of a chance at topping you. I also don't read into things like the voyeurism in vids. I'm just not smart enough. I can tell you that the one and only song that I can remember as being really good and having an awesome vid. was "Take on Me" by Aha. I guess I like it b/c of the motorsports theme in the beginning (bought my first Ninja 600R when I was 16) and, the beautiful "damsel in distress".

We rock country and southern rock music loud and proud! My son has begun to put some good dance/pop music on that I really like, but I couldn't tell you the name of any of it. End of the day, when we are chillin I prefer some Dave Matthews.
