Hi all,

I would like to add some tower speakers to my 2005 VLX with illusion tower and just need to confirm a couple of things.

Currently there are no speakers on the tower. The tower is pre-wired with speaker and light wires running down each side. The left speaker wires run down the left side of the tower and vice versa for the right side. There is no hole going through the body to bring the cables from the tower base to inside the boat.

So this is what I need to know:

1) Where is the hole drilled to get the wires through the tower base plate? Do I drill from below or above? Does anyone have photos of the wires running through this point?

2) Can wires be run from the right side speakers down to the left side of the tower? I've run a cable puller through the tower but it seems to stop half way. I want to run new speaker wire from amp to speaker.

There is a few holes in each baseplate going through the deck of the boat. With the tower collapsed look down in there and you will see it. Run your wires down one of those holes and make your terminations under there. I ran mine through the hole with the spring wire on my last two boats without issue. Sorry I didn't take any pics of this process.

You should also be able to run speaker wire from one side of the tower to the other. Each accessory mount is a nutsert sticking up inside the tower so that may be what you're running into with your fishtape.

Thanks 06vlx,

As per my original post there are no holes in the deck of the boat but I can see an elongated opening in the baseplate where a hole could be drilled. Directly underneath is a thick aluminium bar that has all three baseplate bolts going through it. I would have to drill through this too. I do not have a spring wire in the baseplate. Does anyone have photos of what 06vlx is talking about??

The fishtape is stopping half way between the two middle light holes. I thought it may be hitting on the casting (that's if the tower was built in two parts and joined in the centre). I'll keep persisting and see if I can get it to pass this point.
