Ramp Follies this weekend

To set the stage - Our local ramp has 2x 2 lane ramps with about 30' piers/docks on the outside of each 2 lane ramp.

On Sat, I was walking back to the dock after parking the trailer this weekend when someone launched their nearly new small SUV in addition to their jet-ski. I was the first non-boater on the ramp to assist & fortunately all that was lost was the vehicle. About 30 seconds later, the SUV came to rest sideways at the end of the docks with the roof about 18" below the surface, blocking two of the four lanes until the wrecker arrived to pull it out.

On Sun, As we were lining up to put the boat on the trailer, the boater in the next lane managed to get their 22-24 ft runabout sideways between the docks about 6 feet behind the trailers. Missed our trailer by a few feet & managed to bang both docks pretty good. If we'd been a few seconds earlier, they would have hit us broadside & pinned us between the docks. As it was the only casualty was their gel coat.

"Be careful out there".

Bad News: An old friend is giving up his driver's license

I just got a call from an old friend. He said he was going to stop driving immediately. He has macular degeneration which constricts his field of vision.

What prompted this was a friend of his (not known to me) had just hit a bicycle rider, basically due to his impaired driving skills. This scared my friend John into giving up his driving.

My friend is a great old guy, built a wonderful business, and has 3 very succesful children, also known to me. At least 2 of them are adult athletes and ride bikes. John himself rides a recumbent bike because his body will not hold up on a normal bike. My son is an avid bicycle rider also, and because of this I am very aware and give bicycle riders lots of room and I err on the side of caution any time a bicycle rider is near. I feel I have skin in the game every time I see a bicycle rider on the road.

The bright side is my old friend has this absoluteley gorgeous 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro for sale now with only 19,000 miles on it. This car has a very rare gorgeous (extra cost) blue metallic paint color that I have not seen on other Audis and I am a car guy and pay attention to these things.
This thing is absolutely beautiful due to the rare paint color. I think he wants $25K for it.

I recall there are some Audi lovers out there and this is an opportunity for somebody.

I hope I have the good sense that John does when it is time for me to hang it up.

Building a home.

So were just starting our research on building a house. Found a sweet piece of property that seems very affordable and has the possibility of being a new home site for my fiance and I. The cheap property is facilitating the thought of building as we had been looking at used homes on acreage up until now. Why not build and get exactly what you want for cheaper(is this true)? How many of you have built your own homes(either yourself or local builder/custom)? Are companies like Adair worthwhile? What did you learn in the process that might have changed your mind if you knew before hand? Would you do it again? Was the money saved worth the headaches? Did you find out that 5ac is more than you thought it would be to maintain? Just looking to get some feedback from others that have built their own homes and some of the do's and don'ts for any part of the process. Any input would be great appreciated!

Blu-ray won, but will it make it?

So I was going through the tech news today, & came across this article:

Link

Excerpt:

Quote

Probably a bigger issue: That upscaled DVD players, which can be had for $50 or $60, look almost as good as content played on a Blu-ray player. Consumers just don't see the value proposition in upgrading their hardware, particularly given that players are still over $200. What's a little better picture worth? With Blu-ray pegged at a four percent market share, most people seem to be saying not that much.

This is exactly why I haven't upgraded. My Mits 55" is 1080i & with the HTPC that I've been running, it's positively dialed in. I go to other houses & see store displays with 720p & 1080p televisions, & to be frank mine generally looks a lot better. Yes, I've taken the time to calibrate mine, but even the ones that I have seen that look better....the difference is marginal. That's not much incentive to spend all that money to "upgrade". How about the rest of you?

Thongs

In light of the most recent trend of posting boring and uninteresting threads I thought I would start a thread over the uber interesting topic of thongs. First, I was wondering if anyone else in the crew wears thongs? What color do you prefer? Do you have a specific brand you prefer? How do you keep the thongs from riding up to far or falling off? (this can be very humiliating while in public). Where do you typically wear your thongs? The beach? The Boat? The shopping mall? Or maybe even you and your significant other or "partner" (for California residents) have matching thongs. Please post some pics of your favorite as I am in the market.

You see recently, while taking out the recycling, my thong fell off causing me to trip and fall. Normally this would not have been a big issue as I fall all the time wakeboarding. However this time I er.....stubbed that (how should I put this).... little guy. Dare I say I peeled that guy from the top all the way down to the middle on the backside. It is really quite frustrating, (and dangerous) it doesn't matter if I am in the water, or on dry land my thongs are constantly falling off.

Now sometimes you guys can tend to be.....lets say a little blunt about things and might be tempted to say something like, "Just get a smaller size moron." I assure you it isn't that simple of a solution. You see I have actually tried on sizes that would normally be considered to small for me and (to put it discretely) certain appendages tend to ahem, hang out.

So seriously, where does a guy with skinny feet get a good pair of >>>>>>>>>>>My link
